The 34th Canadian National Karate Championships was held in Saint John, New Brunswick from July 3rd to 5th, 2008. On the last day of competition there was an Open Recreational Division. The following members from our school won awards: Nathalie Arsenault-Bronze medal in Kata, Julie Arsenautl-Bronze medal in Kata, Mackenzie Carter-Bronze medal in Kata, Nichola Gautreau-Bronze medal in Kata and Bronze medal in Kumite, Amelie Renaud-Gold medal in Kumite. |

Thirteen members of our school recently participated in the Tsuruoka International Karate Tournament in Kelowna, B.C., earning 19 medals, five of them gold. The team also won eight silver medals and six bronze medals with every member returning with at least one medal. Our students, ranging in age from under nine to over 40, competed against 180 competitors, the vast majority from

Jean-François Haché won three gold medals and was named top male grand champion of the tournament. He his pictured The other two gold winners were Natalie Arsenault and Amélie Renaud. This is Amélie`s third medal in the past three national tournaments which are held every two years. This year’s tournament was special as it marked the 50th anniversary of Karate in Canada with O’Sensei Masami Tsuruoka, considered the founder of Karate in Canada, present at the tournament. Sensei Oscar Leger who has been practising Tsuruoka-style Karate since 1971 was also promoted to seventh-degree black belt at the tournament. Congratulations to all! |
